Portrait Commissions

Thank you for your interest in potentially acquiring a painting for your and others personal enjoyment. First of all, satisfaction is guaranteed in that the developmental process of the painting will continue until both artist and client are satisfied. The length of time varies according to size, composition, the level of detail in clothing, complex backgrounds, and the addition of other individuals and pets, which will add to the below cost and will be quoted beforehand. Travel expenses, framing, shipping and applicable sale taxes are additional and a 33% deposit is due at first. The balance is due upon completion and delivery.

Procedure

The process begins with a discussion of the specifics, such as, whether single or multiple figures will be portrayed, pets or props are to be included, and the desired mood such as clothing (formal or casual), background (indoor or outdoor), and where you plan to hang your finished portrait. These details help determine the size and price of your portrait. If you already have existing professional photographs for the artist to work from that should streamline the whole process. Upon agreement, a sitting is scheduled. This is a photography session with the artist at the client’s home, office, or desired background location. The session will take one to two hours depending on the complexity of the composition. If the client is located a great distance from the artist or time is of essence, the above meetings can be completed in one day. The selection of the best photos will be shown to you for your comments and approval after which you will select the final pose. The oil portrait is created on quality archival linen in the artist’s studio using the selected photos and studies for reference. Your portrait should be completed within two (4) to six (6) months or in some cases sooner.

Other Artwork

If you are interested in purchasing art other than portraits, original artwork is available or order "Giclees" (an accurate copy of the original) and save. The "Giclees" are modestly priced and they can be reproduced on canvas or 100% archival rag paper and it‘s like having the "original" hanging on your wall.

Giclee

Giclee (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a French word meaning "to spray on." A large format, high resolution, professional inkjet printer sprays the canvas or paper with very high quality pigmented inks in a highly controlled and extremely fine spray. The process begins with the artwork photographed and then a drum scanner is used to digitize the photograph. The next step is tonal and color correction done on a computer with sophisticated software. After the artist has looked at the proof and approved final adjustments the digital file is stored for archival purposes and the giclee is ready to print. Independent or third party tests have been performed by taking an original watercolor painting and a giclee reproduction exposing them to direct sunlight for 90 days and the original showed little signs of fading where as the print did not. Quality inkjet giclees have been rated at 100 years and more, even greater for black and white reproductions.
